The Somali Sustainable Development Foundation (SSDF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation established to address Somalia’s urgent development challenges.
The Somali Sustainable Development Foundation (SSDF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to building climate-resilient communities across Somalia. We work to implement sustainable infrastructure, prevent flood risks, and ensure communities have access to clean water and sanitation. Together with local stakeholders and international partners, we are laying the foundation for a more stable and self-reliant future.
SSDF focuses on critical areas such as infrastructure development, water and sanitation services, urban planning and climate resilience. Somalia faces frequent droughts, floods and displacement crises, compounded by inadequate drainage systems and poor urban infrastructure. SSDF was founded by experienced professionals with decades of international and local expertise in sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDs), flood mitigation, road and highway engineering, housing development and water infrastructure. Our foundation is committed to delivering innovative, practical and sustainable solutions to protect Somali communities and build a resilient future.

SSDF is a non-profit organisation working to protect Somali communities from the impact of floods and poor infrastructure. Our focus is on building sustainable roads, drainage and water systems while strengthening community resilience.
We design and construct essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges and buildings that supports sustainable growth, improves connectivity and enhances the quality of life in Somali communities.
We increase access to safe drinking water, construct effective sanitation systems and promote hygiene awareness to reduce disease and improve health outcomes in vulnerable populations.
We implement flood mitigation strategies, including improved drainage, embankments and early warning systems, to reduce the risk and impact of seasonal and flash flooding.
We empower communities to adapt to the challenges of climate change by promoting green technologies, nature-based solutions and disaster preparedness measures that build long-term resilience.
We provide targeted training and mentorship for engineers, urban planners and project managers to strengthen local expertise and foster sustainable development leadership within Somalia.
